Sedation Dentistry
Does dental anxiety cause you to avoid regular dental checkups and important treatments? If so, you are in good company. Millions of Americans experience severe dental anxiety. Unfortunately, when you fail to go for your regularly scheduled dental checkups, you make yourself susceptible to serious oral health issues. In many instances, the treatments necessary to correct these problems are much more elaborate, costly, and painful than the dental checkups you’ve been avoiding.
At Moore Family Dentistry, we work hard to provide you with the most comfortable dental experience possible. One of the ways we accomplish this goal is by offering a variety of sedation dentistry options to ensure you are relaxed and at ease throughout your treatment.
The best way to determine whether sedation dentistry is right for you is to speak with Dr. Adam Moore in person. Please call (919) 772-1811 today to schedule a consultation at our Garner dental office.
Benefits of Sedation Dentistry
Sedation dentistry provides you with a safe way to feel relaxed and comfortable at the dentist’s office. Many of our patients have turned to sedation dentistry to help them undergo checkups, cleanings, and other general or cosmetic dentistry procedures that they have previously avoided out of fear.
Some of the most important benefits you can experience from sedation dentistry include:
- An ability to complete multiple procedures at once, minimizing your dental visits
- A more relaxed, comfortable experience
- Makes it easier for patients who have trouble getting numb to complete important dental procedures
- Suppresses an active gag reflex
- In some instances, leaves you with no memory of your procedure
- Allows Dr. Moore to perform your treatment more efficiently
Your Sedation Dentistry Options
Dr. Moore completed his training in sedation dentistry over a year in a hospital/operating room setting with board-certified anesthesiologist. This extensive background enables him to offer multiple dosages in order to achieve your desired sedation level and provide you with optimal comfort. Dr. Moore’s extensive training in sedation helps add an extra level of safety versus other dentists that receive their training in a weekend course (DOCS).
We offer the following sedation dentistry options to patients in the Garner and Cary areas:
- Nitrous oxide
- Anxiolysis (single dose medication the night before your appointment and a single dose one hour before your appointment)
- In-office oral sedation consisting of multiple doses of medication to achieve the desired sedation level
Dr. Moore can administer nitrous oxide gas to help you become more relaxed during your procedure. You will feel the effects of the nitrous immediately, and it wears off just as quickly. As a result, you will be clear-headed and able to drive home at the end of your appointment.
Our dentist also offers oral conscious sedation, which involves the use of a sedative pill to place you in a relaxed, semi-conscious state during your procedure. You will be able to communicate with Dr. Moore, but in most cases, you won’t remember much after the procedure is complete. You’ll simply wake up feeling refreshed. Make sure you arrange for someone to drive you home.
You can either choose traditional oral conscious sedation or in-office oral sedation. If you choose the traditional method, you will take a pill the night before your procedure and another when you arrive at our office. If you choose in-office sedation, you will only take a pill when you arrive for your appointment.
